Property managers are prohibited by Iowa law from discrimination based on:

State of Iowa Code Chapter 216.8: Unfair or discriminatory practices-housing.

This law prohibits practices and polices that discriminate against someone based on race, color, creed, religion, sex, national origin, physical/mental disability or familial status. (Familial status means presence of children).

Some cities in Iowa also prohibit discrimination in housing. The staff at RENT Iowa are currently compiling a list of this information. We will be updating this list as often as possible.

The City of Ames prohibits discrimination in housing against someone based on race, ethnicity or national origin, color, creed, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, gender, physical disability and familial status.
